PEOPLE TO LOVE: LIZ SHERMAN

Liz is a wonderfully talented, warmhearted, and altruistic person many have 

had the pleasure to meet while she studied at the University of Buffalo, 

earning her three Bachelor’s degrees (count 'em, THREE) in psychology, French, and communications, or while volunteering many 

hours at the local refugee resettling agency, Journey’s End Refugee 

Services (JERS). Liz is definitely someone to love and is currently raising 

money by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro (that’s the highest mountain in Africa, 

and one of the biggest in the world!). Her decision to make the trek was 

out of her passion for providing underprivileged children around the world 

with an education… and a brighter future.

Liz has partnered with a charity called COCO, or Comrades of Children 

Overseas – 

a children's charity that works throughout Africa creating sustainable projects that focus mainly on education and medicine. COCO relies on the generosity from donors to further it's mission. Please consider donating to Liz's climb to support COCO.

People like Liz don’t need a reason to “do good” – they’re the kind that

. Many of the refugees she has 

worked with at JERS come from situations in their home country where “the 

sad reality is that education is just too expensive,” she’s stated, "

and 

that is why I am working to change it.”

Liz is currently studying in Newcastle-upon-Tyne for her MA in Cross 

Cultural Communication. She intends on writing her thesis on the support 

services necessary for refugees to have successful integration into a new 

country.
