Welcome all to the CAC!

The Community Academic Center (CAC) is a place where people from higher education and local community members meet to engage each other in matters of education and support youth in Buffalo's West Side.

Generously donated by Elanor and Vaughn Beals (the CEO of Harley Davidson) to Buffalo State, the CAC is conveniently located on Grant Street in Buffalo and provides a home base for some awesome programs such as Buffalo Beginnings, the Visual Arts Program, and the Buffalo English Language Learners (BELL) Network.

"Many hearts and hands have gone into making this idea a reality" says Maureen McCarthy, coordinator of community collaborations. So, take advantage of this primo-locale to do your part in changing lives, housing your community projects, and making a difference in our part of the world!

Spotlight Buffalo ESL

PEOPLE TO LOVE: LIZ SHERMAN

Liz is a wonderfully talented, warmhearted, and altruistic person many have
had the pleasure to meet while she studied at the University of Buffalo,
earning her three Bachelor’s degrees (count 'em, THREE) in psychology, French, and communications, or while volunteering many
hours at the local refugee resettling agency, Journey’s End Refugee
Services (JERS). Liz is definitely someone to love and is currently raising
money by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro (that’s the highest mountain in Africa,
and one of the biggest in the world!). Her decision to make the trek was
out of her passion for providing underprivileged children around the world
with an education… and a brighter future.

Liz has partnered with a charity called COCO, or Comrades of Children
Overseas –
a children's charity that works throughout Africa creating sustainable projects that focus mainly on education and medicine. COCO relies on the generosity from donors to further it's mission. Please consider donating to Liz's climb to support COCO.
A little can go a long way. We know that success is
dependent on the opportunities life gives – and Liz is providing those
life-saving opportunities for children who may be our neighbors one day.

Mt. Kilimanjaro

People like Liz don’t need a reason to “do good” – they’re the kind that
shed light wherever they go
. Many of the refugees she has
worked with at JERS come from situations in their home country where “the
sad reality is that education is just too expensive,” she’s stated, "
and
that is why I am working to change it.”

Liz always says, “Education has life-changing power," you can invoke that power and be a part of movement that creates change. Please consider donating today.

Liz is currently studying in Newcastle-upon-Tyne for her MA in Cross
Cultural Communication. She intends on writing her thesis on the support
services necessary for refugees to have successful integration into a new
country.
